About Tallafest 2020 On the 20th June

TALLAFEST may not be taking to the streets of Tallaght Village this Saturday but a plan is in place to celebrate community spirit online.

This Saturday, June 20, everyone due to attend Tallafest are encouraged to celebrate the community festival at home.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 guidelines and in the interest of public health, Tallafest 2020 was cancelled.

However, TCC is inviting everyone to mark Tallafest this Saturday by getting creative at home, and sharing a video with the hastag #Tallafest2020atHome

Tallafest at home will also be launched with a special video on TCC’s social media channels at 12 noon this Saturday.

Organised by Tallaght Community Council (TCC), with support from a team of volunteers and local businesses, Tallafest is a community celebration that started eight years ago.

The festival draws thousands of locals into Tallaght Village who gather to celebrate their hometown, and the area’s rural heritage, arts, culture, music and sports.

Tara De Buitlear, TCC PRO, told The Echo: “Tallafest has become a summer anchor event for young and old alike in Tallaght. It brings a combined focus on history, nature, arts, culture, creative learning and fun, all back in our village - which dates back to pre-Christian times.

“As with global events, we have had to reimagine this celebration in the face of the global health crisis of Covid-19.

“So we are encouraging everyone who normally attends Tallafest to mark it at home this year and to post your activity on social media.

“Read a book, take a nature walk, sing and song, practice your sporting skills, make crafts - get creative and have fun at home this Saturday!

“To help give you some inspiration we have a special video that we will play at 12 noon on TCC social media channels. So tune in and get inspired!”

There will also be a prize for the winning post, which will be announced on Thursday, June 25.
