About Us

Established in 1946, the Irish National Stud combines an active role in the development and promotion of Irish bloodstock with its role as one of the country's major tourist attractions.

By Royal Appointment

The National Stud was proud to showcase Ireland's Thoroughbred industry to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her state visit to Ireland on Thursday 19th May.  CEO John Osborne treated the Queen to her own personal stallion parade where she viewed the stud's flagship sire Invincible Spirit amongst others.

Earlier - introduced by Johnny Murtagh - she had met members of the RACE Apprentice School and world famous INS Breeding Course.  Trainers of this year's Cheltenham winners including Mouse Morris and Willie Mullins were also presented and enjoyed a chat with Her Majesty, who has a keen knowledge of racing already.  A sculpture celebrating Sea The Stars, who was born at the stud, was also unveiled on the lower lawn and will remain as a reminder of this historic visit.  In her appreciation the Queen was thrice treated to spontaneous applause from the small gathering of racing dignitaries in attendance.

Horse Racing Ireland's chief executive Brian Kavanagh commented: "This was a day when the industry's best side shone outward.  I'm sure the images going around the world today will be of Ireland's excellence in the horse world.  It was a very good day".
